First published in 1897,The Year 3000is the most daring and original work of fiction by the prominent Italian anthropologist Paolo Mantegazza. A futuristic utopian novel, the book follows two young lovers who, as they travel from Rome to the capital of the United Planetary States to celebrate their "mating union," encounter the marvels of cultural and scientific advances along the way. Intriguing in itself,The Year 3000is also remarkable for both its vision of the future (predicting an astonishing array of phenomena from airplanes, artificial intelligence, CAT scans, and credit cards to controversies surrounding divorce, abortion, and euthanasia) and the window it opens on fin de siecle Europe. Published here for the first time in English, this richly annotated edition features an invaluable introductory essay that interprets the intertextual and intercultural connections within and beyond Mantegazza's work. For its critical contribution to early science fiction and for its insights into the hopes, fears, and clash of values in the Western world of both Mantegazza's time and our own, this book belongs among the visionary giants of speculative literature.

Since World War II, Italy has struggled to recast both its colonial past and its alliance with Nazi Germany. For many years, pervading much intellectual and public discourse was the contention that, prior to the great influx of racialized migrants in the mid-1980s, and with the exception of the Fascist period, there simply was no race (racialized others, racist intolerance, etc.) in Italy. Vital Subjects examines cultural production - literature, sociology and public health discourse, and early film - from the years between Unification and the end of the First World War (ca. 1860 and 1920) in order to explore how race and colonialism were integral to modern Italian national culture, rather than a marginal afterthought or a Fascist aberration. Drawing from theorizations of biopolitics - a term coined by political theorists from Michel Foucault to Giorgio Agamben, Roberto Esposito, and numerous others to address how the life and productivity of the population emerges as a distinctively modern political question - the book repositions discourses of race and colonialism with regard to post-Unification national culture. Vital Subjects reads cultural texts in a biopolitical key, arguing that the tenor of racial discourse was overwhelmingly positive, focusing on making Italians as vital subjects--robust, vigorous, well-nourished, and (re)productive.

Get Unstuck from Fundamentalism unravels the mystery behind the need to hold myths as literal truth and the need for certainty. Written in and laced with engaging Italian stories, it points beyond mere rejection of childhood upbringing to a deep spiritual shore that is there for all of us to find. Children live in a literal world where myths and reality are blurred such as the existence of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. Many of those beliefs are unraveled by the time you become an adult, but fundamentalism is that which remains locked into absolutism. It is as if all the answers and purpose of the world come from outside of yourself, and the stories if still held literally remain in charge of your thinking. Most aren't even aware of this. 30% of Americans hold fundamentalist beliefs, but only 9% call themselves a fundamentalist. Those who are unaware cannot realize that they live on the ends of strings that someone else pulls. Others live in reaction against their childhood literal beliefs and therefore shut themselves off from further spiritual growth.

This book tells the story of a family that began in ancient Mesopotamia about 5000 BCE, whose descendants are scattered to several nations, some of whom reside in the Americas. The journey undertaken by descendants of this family saw them through seven major world powers; where in, millions today has survived slavery. The Biblical Journey of Slavery takes the reader through thousands of years to show who were this family and their current dilemma of identity in the Western world. Members of this family are refered to as Africans of the Diaspora. The Text takes an overview of those who came To The West via the 'Atlantic Slave Trade'. Decades spent in search of identity by one descendant of the family, Is the result of the Biblical journey of Slavery. The narrative provides a source of enlightenment for millions of displaced Africans who lost their identity, and illustrates the fulfillment of prophecies written over 3000 years ago. There are questions about the past that haunt members of Diaspora Africans; some of which are addressed in this journey. Diaspora Africans frustration, bewilderment and lack of comprehension have found many avenues of expression; one of these avenues is destructive anger against self and brother. There are lessons of history that will aid understanding and solve complex issues that currently face African nations, communities and families in the West. The text presented will shed light on misconceptions, misunderstanding and deception plaguing millions who grope for their rightful place in society. The journey undertaken will visit ancient lands and show from maps, illustrations and undeniable evidence, episodes that connect Africans to their ancestral past that should have shaped their world. The revelation presented is a topic which time has come. Africans of the Diaspora will learn the root causes of their dilemma And The solution for healing, As visits to their ancestral lands, And The knowledge of their ancestral great contributions To The world is defined. There have been recorded detailed documented plans set in place and carried out by Christian slave owners to gain control not only of the physical body of the slave but to execute physiological mastery of the Captives mind (Example: The Lynch letter). The conditions imposed on the African in Western society, created a legacy of psychological damage. Whether Diaspora Africans' history is hidden by circumstances or design, their dilemma is in part rooted in lack of knowledge of their history and of those who oppress them. This unfortunate scenario will continue unless changes are set in place to educate To The contrary. it is important for this generation to set a precedent that will bring about that change. The journey From Egypt To The Americas: The Biblical Journey of Slavery will bring to light the Biblical Heritage of these dispersed Africans. Millions will appreciate and grasp the gravity of the present system responsible for moulding them into the spiritually twisted people the majority are today. There are issues needed to be addressed for Diaspora Africans who search for answers relevant to their past. A past that began a long time before their ancestors were captured and enslaved in the Americas. Resounding questions include; "I wonder what my real name was?" No longer satisfied with their former slave masters' name many have changed their names reflecting their desire to connect with the past. "What were the culture and religion of my forefathers?" Their confirmation to Christianity did not erase the persecution and oppression by the ones who introduced them To The religion. The most reverberated question of all, is, "Why can't Africans/Black People unite?" "Why are we so hated by other races?" "Why do we hate and destroy each other?" the destructive behaviour of Black on Black crime is seen presently in many former colonized African nations, In their communities, and on the Continent itself the Bible has the answers to many questions that haunt Diaspora Africans because the Bible is a history book about African People. The prophet Moses and his wife were Black Africans; this information is found in the Bible, yet is unknown To The masses. Investigation on the characters of scripture will lead To The ancient cities of Mesopotamia/Middle East, and reveal that the early Bible Patriarchs from Mesopotamia, many of their descendants are found in remote villages of African nations and linked to Africans of the Western Diaspora. What is learned from this book, Is the result of many years of research, and brings together information from various sources to answer puzzling questions in one concise volume. it represents a foundational guide to those who have been confused about the current dilemma of identity that the African Diaspora finds itself in today, either as observers or as members.

In 1958, a successful businessman named Robert Mornroe began to have experiences that drastically altered his life. Unpredictably, and without his willing it, Monroe found himself leaving his physical body to travel via a "second body" to locales far removed from the physical and spiritual realities of his life. He was inhabiting a place unbounded by life or death. Monroe recorded these experiences in two bestselling, landmark books, Journeys Out of the Body and Far Journeys. Ultimate Journey, his final and career-defining work, takes us further than we thought possible--and reveals to us what it all means. Ultimate Journey charts that area which lies "over the edge," beyond the limits of the physical world. It presents us with a map of the "interstate"--the route that opens to us when we leave our physical lives, with their entry and exit ramps, their singposts and their hazards. It also tells us how Monroe found the route and travelled it, and uncovered the reason and the purpose of this pioneering expedition. It is a journey that reveals basic truths about the meaning and purpose of life--and of what lies beyond. After six hardcover printings, the trade paperback edition of Ultimate Journey, will offer an even wider range of readers this exhilarating reading experience, the masterwork of one of the most daring and original thinkers and explorers of our time.

In 1971 Doubleday published a book called Journeys Out of the Body, a Virginia businessman's memoir of his weird and wonderful adventures on other planes of reality. That book, which has sold more than a million copies, and that man, Robert Monroe, helped cement the concept of astral travel into the American psyche and made the "out-of-body experience" a household word. Monroe not only helped others understand this state of being, but through his research on binaural beats and his development of the technology known as Hemi-Sync, he made the OBE accessible through programs at The Monroe Institute, which is attended by thousands of people each year. However, Monroe made consciousness research more than an esoteric thrill ride. He put his technology to practical use by creating frequencies that have helped people with everything from meditation and learning, to insomnia, quitting smoking, and pain control.

Neville was born in Barbados, West Indies in 1905 into a poor English family—nine boys and one girl—where he was raised and educated in a traditional Christian manner. His father who knew about the power of imagining, along with the help of his industrious sons, made the Goddard’s into the largest business presence in the island, and at his death left all ten children independently wealthy. At age seventeen Neville left Barbados for New York City where he worked in retail for several years until he became a dancer in Broadway shows. This led to a stint in London where he was introduced to metaphysical thought, and upon returning to New York he began to teach the law of imagining in 1938 to ever-growing audiences in the East, Los Angeles and San Francisco. When he moved his family to Los Angeles in the early 1950s he was attracting crowds of 2,000 for his Sunday talks. Everyone wanted something—homes, new jobs, mates, money—and he successfully taught them how to fulfill those desires through the use of their all-powerful human imaginations. The techniques, testimonies from his audiences, the creative formula, visions, dreams and Bible interpretations are discussed simply and in detail in these lectures. They encourage any seeker to apply his or her imagination for success, and ultimately lead to the appreciation that there is no intermediary between God (man’s I AM) and man. Starting in 1959 he had a series of six visions over a three and a half year period—resurrection/birth from above; David; splitting of the temple/ascension; and the dove’s descent. Then he understood his mission: To first experience these visions, understand their meanings, and then teach the meaning of these signs that are given to man after multiple lifetimes and all states of consciousness have been played by each individual. These signs confirm the awakening of man’s soul. Man’s origin and destiny are divine—from unity into diversity back to unity, with no loss of individuality. All is forgiven and the exile, the prodigal returns to Lordship, greatly expanded by the journey through limitation, illusion and a sleep likened unto death.

Do beer yeast rustlers really exist? Who patented the Beer Goddess? How can you tell a Beer Geek from a Beer Nazi? Where exactly is Beervana? Does Big Beer hate Little Beer? Ken Wells, a novelist, Pulitzer Prize finalist, and longtime Wall Street Journal writer, answers these questions and more by bringing a keen eye and prodigious reportage to the people and passions that have propelled beer into America's favorite alcoholic beverage and the beer industry into a $75 billion commercial juggernaut, not to mention a potent force in American culture. Travels with Barley is a lively, literate tour through the precincts of the beer makers, sellers, drinkers, and thinkers who collectively drive the mighty River of Beer onward. The heart of the book is a journey along the Mississippi River, from Minnesota to Louisiana, in a quixotic search for the Perfect Beer Joint -- a journey that turns out to be the perfect pretext for viewing America through the prism of a beer glass. Along the river, you'll visit the beer bar once owned by the brewer Al Capone, glide by The World's Largest Six Pack, and check into Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel to plumb the surprisingly controversial question of whether Elvis actually drank beer. But the trip also includes numerous detours up quirky tributaries, among them: a visit to an Extreme Beer maker in Delaware with ambitions to make 50-proof brew, a look at the murky world of beer yeast rustlers in California, and a journey to the portals of ultimate beer power at the Anheuser-Busch plant in St. Louis, where making the grade as a Clydesdale draft horse is harder than you might imagine. Entertaining, enlightening, and written with Wells's trademark verve, Travels with Barley is a perfect gift -- not just for America's 84 million beer enthusiasts, but for all discerning readers of flavorful nonfiction.
