Sie verdeutlicht im übertragenen Sinn den Reifegrad, den das neue Web gewonnen hat. Insofern macht sie auch deutlich, dass es sich um eine Entwicklungsstufe in einem fortschreitenden Prozess handelt“ (Knappe 2007, 17). Beim Web 2.0 steht der Internetnutzer im Zentrum und das Internet dient als Informations-, Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationsplattform. Durch Blogs, soziale Netzwerke, Photo- und Videoportale oder Verkaufsforen entwickelte sich das Inter-nett zu einem Kommunikationsmittel, das ohne die aktive und interaktive Mitwirkung der Anwender nicht existieren könnte. Einen weiteren wichtigen Bereich stellen die Suchmaschinen dar: „Heute liegt die Herausforderung des Internets nicht mehr darin, online Informationen zu recherchieren, sondern darin, die richtigen Informationen in kürzester Zeit zu finden“ (Schmalz 2008, 173). Betrachtet man den Einfluss des Internets, das sich durch schnelle Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit, simple und kosten-günstige Handhabung sowie weltweite Verbreitung auszeichnet, kann man von einer tief greifenden Revolution des Mediensektors sprechen (vgl. Schmalz 2008, 174). ... Die folgende Arbeit geht zunächst auf die zunehmende Bedeutung des Internets in den Vereinigten Staaten sowie in den Kulturwissenschaften und in der Politik ein. Anschließend wird der Internetwahlkampf in der Theorie anhand von Vor- und Nachteilen vorgestellt. Basierend auf diesem theoretischen Teil wird David Axelrods Wahlkampagne für Barack Obama dargelegt. In diesem Zusammenhang ist der Begriff change besonders wichtig.
